Harold Camping and The End of the World: False Teachers Give Christians’ A Bad Name (related tags: HaroldCamping.com)

Harold Camping is a perfect example of what the Bible teaches about false teachers and doctrines.   He even claims to be a prophet.  I’ll stick with God’s true prophets revealed to us in His Word.

2 Peter 2:1But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Harold Camping and his followers seem be reading a very different Bible then mine.  It is stated numerous times that the Lord is returning for His church.  But what they choose to ignore is that only God Himself knows the exact time.  For all the revelations John saw, he was never given specific dates.

Matthew 24:36  “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven.  nor the Son, but only the Father.”

  1. Harold Camping’s Family Radio often has very good music, so several years ago I started listening for the music. Every so often the music would be interrupted by one of Harold Camping’s spiels.

Over several years I’ve come to realize the camping is *not* an evangelical. He has never preached a message of a loving God, a redemtive Jesus. Camping has some bizarre theology that would baffle most of us who consider ourselves evangelical. I would say that based on his theological beliefs that it is a stretch to refer to him as Christian. His beliefs are akin to what many (well known) cults (which falsely claim to be Christian) believe.

  2. Normally on my site I focus on uplifting topics, but this latest media frenzy really bothered me. As you and I both know we are living in the end times. I’ve done my fair share of study on prophesy and have a pretty good grasp on it. One of his other ridiculous quotes was putting a number on how many would be leaving….”2-3% of the world’s population will disappear during the rapture”. How narrow minded this thinking is. I’m guessing he’s leaving out all of children that fill this earth. Pretty sure that is a much higher %. Isn’t it sad how groups/religions pick apart God’s Word and create their own ideas and assumptions. In Rev 22:18 God warns us against people that add and take away from the Bible. Harold Camping certainly isn’t the first to claim the appointed time of Christ return for His church – and won’t be the last.
